How the mother tongue adds up to your diction.

lets take the example of a Punjabi kid. he has three main languages around him.

  1. Punjabi, the language of the soil.
  2. Urdu, the languae of UP CP, popular mainly due to literature and Urdu/Hindi movies
  3. English, the language of science and technology.

Now let’s assume, every language has 5000 thousands words. if he uses Punjabi as the medium of expression. He has total 15000 words to express, because he can use the word of any other language in his mother tongue. As a native speaker, he has that freedom.

if he abandons Punjabi, he is left with 10,000 words only and if he chooses English as the language of expression, he has only 5000 words to express.

So the key is, we should add the words rather than subtracting it. And we should use the language of the soil as the medium of the expression.

How the mother tongue improves your expression.

When a Punjabi kid goes to Urdu medium school and his teacher asks about his home work. he may say, sir cheta bhool giya This will cause a laughter for the whole class and embarrassment for the Punjabi kid. The reason is, Urdu does not allow the words of Punjabi language.

On the hand, if the school is Punjabi medium, he can say it both way, sir g cheta bhool giya or sir g yaad nai reha.

what it means? it means, in mother language, you are allowed to add the words of any other language as it is  your own language. No on stops you. No one laughs at your. But in any other language, you have to apply filters.

All the great Nations, use their mother languages as the medium of expression. This way, they not only make use of all the available diction of their mother tongue but also add hundreds of words of foreign languages to their dictionary.

On the other hands, we Pakistani Punjabis are goring to subtract the huge and valuable asset of  Punjabi words. What we would be left behind with? Our next generation will definitely lack the power of expression.

Believe it or not.

How a language affects your creativity

When we speak any language other than the mother language, we in fact use a filter inside our mind. The filter bars the words of mother language, translate them into foreign language and then pass on. This filtration process on one side, decreases the ability to express and on the other side it slows the creative process as the a part of brain is constantly engaged in translation. The thought always erupts in mother language. if we process the thought in mother language and then express in mother language, we can be more creative and more expressive.

Punjabi nation! mind your language, and use the Punjabi as the medium of instruction in your institutes, otherwise you would always follow the footsteps of others.

What is the worst form of imperialism

When a Punjabi kid gets education, he is uprooted from his soil, family and the roots. When he goes to school, he learns that his own language and culture is inferior to the Ganga Jamni culture and language. He carries this inferiority complex for his whole academic career as he is not allowed to speak Punjabi at any formal forum. After getting married, he and his wife decide that they would speak Urdu with their kids so that their new generation should not face the humility that they faced themselves.

So they forbid their kids to mingle with their grandparents and the cousins living in village who speak Punjabi. This way, they get totally disconnected not only from their soil and society but also from their very close family and relatives.

And this is worst of imperialism!

If I love you!

if I love you,

I’ll love everything that belongs to you, your language, your dress, your identity, cast and creed. but If I love myself, I’ll try to transform you. I’ll ask you to learn my language, wear my dress and adopt my identity.

Now look at our state. if the state takes care of its people, it would help them stand on their feet, making them and their identity strong. But in Pakistan whenever a kid goes to school, the very first lesson he learns without even being taught is that the language his/her parents speak is rubbish, the dress he/she wears is the ugly one. he/she must change his dress and language before getting admission to school otherwise he/she would be fined for speaking Punjabi or other regional languages.

So the first lesson, our kids learn in school is “inferiority complex”. And they learn this first lesson by heart for the rest of their life. How this mentally coward new generation would be able to compete with developed nations?

So now, please let me know, whether our educationist love us or hate us?

I am everywhere still I am invisible – what do you say?

I am sitting in my home in Lahore, the heartland of Punjab. I am watching the cable television. I surfed all the ninety five channels but could not find a single channel in my mother language Punjabi. if I go to any book shop in my vicinity, I can not find a single book in Punjabi. There is a newspaper stall at few steps from home but it has no paper in Punjabi. I speak Punjabi at home and wear shalwaar qameez. but whenever I step out, I change my dress and change my language. Although all the people outside are of my own nation. I am in my own home town. Still I hide myself from everyone even from the eyes of myself. This double standard arose from my inferiority complex and is recursively making me more inferior in my own eyes.

I look down upon me so much that I hate everything that belongs to me. I am Punjabi, I am everywhere but I am invisible. please help me. what do you say?
